Principal's Message
Dear Sakai Families,

Sakai’s broadcast last Friday was particularly meaningful, as it showcased a powerful presentation that our students and staff created, introducing their family members who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. This presentation underscored our students and staff's profound gratitude and pride for their military family members. It was very moving. Thank you to our Sakai community Veterans. We appreciate you!

Although expressing gratitude is a healthy habit year-round, November is the designated month for us to pause and reflect on what we're thankful for and show appreciation for the people in our lives. Our Family Dare for this week is to help your student select someone they are grateful for and give them a call. Ask your child whom they'd like to choose for this and offer to assist them as needed. Afterward, talk with your student about how it felt doing this intentional act of kindness and gratitude.

I am immensely grateful for our Bainbridge Island community and for being able to work with the students, families, and staff at Sakai. Families, thank you so much for your partnership and for sharing your children with us.

Have a wonderful week, Sakai!

Drew

Art
Art News
I enjoyed seeing so many students and their families at BIMA this weekend! Thank you for your support.

We have started a Thankful tree in Art, focusing on line and texture. Look for it to come home in time for Thanksgiving.

The Knitting and Crochet group is catching on and we are in need of yarn. If you have any left over from a project, please consider donating it to Sakai Art.

I am also looking for a pair of strong hands to cut x's on tennis balls, with an exacto knife, for our stools in the art room. The old ones are starting to fall off and I got a donation from the Parks and Rec.

I am also starting to collect Clear 2 liter plastic bottles for a project based on Chihuly.

In this season of Thanksgiving I am thankful for my students and families!

Supply Wishlist
Sakai's Maker Space is in need of some sewing needles, crochet hooks, and knitting needles.
Donations of any of these items would be much appreciated. Perhaps you have some of these items that are no longer needed in your household, and Sakai will be more than happy to have them.

Donations of recess equipment in good condition, such as soccer balls, tennis balls, frisbees, or 4-square balls would be appreciated. If your garage is cluttered with these items that you may no longer use,
Sakai would definitely put them back to good use.

As the weather gets colder and a little less outdoor-recess-y, we would like to provide a game room alternative during lunch recess! If you would like to volunteer in our game room, please click here.

Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.
