  • Photo of Counselors: Beth Hebert and Anita Watson

Beth Hebert and Anita Watson are the counselors at Sakai.  Students request appointments for a wide range of problems which may take their attention away from being successful at Sakai.  Staff or parents may also request that a student meet with the counselor.  For more information about counseling, feel free to call any time.

Sakai's Counseling Mission Statement:

As Sakai’s school counselors, we have a strong belief in Positive Psychology and strive to incorporate these tenets into our school counseling practice.  The core assumptions of Positive Psychology are:

  • Relationships are the key to success
  • Positive focus leads to positive outcomes
  • Humans have a distinct ability to change
  • Strengths are fuel for change
  • There are strengths in every child, youth, family and community

As professional school counselors, we are committed to:

  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
  • Work and cooperate with teachers, administrators, parents and community resources to strive for the goal of academic, personal/social, and career success for all students. Assist all students through individual and group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, collaboration, consultation, advocacy, and leadership
  • Consider all students, regardless of their ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, religious or spiritual identity, socioeconomic status or learning differences when planning and implementing the school counseling program
  • Strive to be preventative in design and geared toward the developmental stages of all students as they move through their schooling career
  • Respect all students’ values and beliefs and not impose our personal values
  • Participate in professional development activities essential to maintain a quality school counseling program
  • Be knowledgeable of laws, regulations, and policies related to students
  • Be an advocate for all students
