Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy Election Day! We hope you all remembered to vote. There is so much energy around and on Election Day that it's natural for students to experience a range of emotions. Even though they may not be directly involved in voting, children often hear conversations at home, in the media, or from their peers, which can lead to feelings of excitement, confusion, anxiety, or even concern.
As adults, it’s important for us to recognize these emotions and provide support to help our children navigate them. Elections can be an overwhelming topic for many young students, and it’s completely normal for them to have questions or to be uncertain about what is happening in the world around them.
Here are a few ways you can support your child during this time:
-
Encourage open conversations: Let your child share their thoughts and feelings about the election. Validate their emotions and provide simple, age-appropriate explanations of the process.
-
Create a calm space: If you notice your child feeling anxious or upset, encourage them to take a break and talk about what they’re experiencing. Helping them put their emotions into words can be powerful.
-
Model respectful discussions: This is an opportunity to show how to engage in thoughtful and respectful conversations, even when we disagree. Your example of kindness and understanding can help them manage their own emotions and interactions.
-
Take care of their mental well-being: If the election news feels overwhelming to your child, it might be helpful to limit their exposure to media coverage or focus on other activities that bring them joy and peace.
If you are looking for some additional helpful tips, check out this resource.
As always, we are here to offer support. Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child’s social and emotional growth.
Warm regards,
Anita Watson and Beth Hebert

On Sunday November 10, BIMA is having a private showing for Students, their families, and teachers of the Dios de los Muertos and Beyond exhibit.
If you can't make it, the exhibit runs through the 17th of November. BIMA is a wonderful resource for our community and is always open.
In Art, we are starting a project focused on Thankfulness. I am thankful for our students and the creativity they share on a daily basis.

Sakai Volunteer Opportunities
|
We have several upcoming volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Thank you for considering signing up to help us out.
Game Room
As the weather gets colder and a little less outdoor-recess-y, we would like to provide a game room alternative during lunch recess! If you would like to volunteer in our game room, please click here.
Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.
Please bring your driver's license or id each time you sign into any school in the district.
