Principal's Message

Dear Sakai Families,

The yearbooks came in, and it’s really fun to look back on pictures from the year. Our students have grown so much since they took their school picture in the fall. Our broadcast team will reveal the cover winner on Friday’s broadcast and students will receive their copy that day. A huge thank you to Annie, Jen, and Jennifer for their hard work in getting them together this year. They look amazing!

A few reminders:

Thursday: No school to observe Juneteenth
Friday: 6th-grade celebration with field trip to the movies
                 5th-grade Field Day from 12:45-3:25
Monday: Last day with a release at 11:55.

Families, thank you so much for your support and partnership this year. I hope you have a joyful summer that is filled with rest and family time. If you are returning to us in the fall, I look forward to seeing you at the Ice Cream Social on August 28th (12:30-2:00). Look for further communication from me in mid-August. For families not returning, I wish you the best of luck as you move on. It has been an absolute honor being your student's principal this year.

Have a wonderful last week, Sakai!

Drew

To the Parents of Future 7th Graders

If you have a student moving up to 7th grade, please read the following information.

In Washington State, the Tdap vaccine is required for school attendance on or before the start of 7th grade (RCW 28A.210.080). The Tdap is a booster vaccine which continues to protect your child against the tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis diseases they were immunized against as a young child.

To update your child’s Tdap immunization (or other vaccine) record at the school, you will need to turn in a medically verified immunization record. Your child’s health care provider can print this for you, or you can print it from MyIRMobile, which is a free Department of Health online tool that allows families to view and print their official immunization records themselves. Go here for more information on accessing your families immunization information.

For more information on Washington State immunization requirements, please visit School and Child Care Immunization Information for Families

Please feel free to contact the Woodward health room if you have any questions: (206) 780-4511

WMS Summer Reading 2025-2026
Incoming 7th Graders

To encourage a love of reading, we invite all middle school students to read at least one to two books and participate in Kitsap Regional Library’s (KRL) Summer Learning program. Summer learning at KRL is a fun opportunity to discover new books, enjoy our local library, and participate in engaging summer activities. This summer reading is an opportunity for you to choose your own books.

To participate in the KRL summer learning program:
  1. June 1st- Pick up a summer reading tracker in your English class, school library, or at the Bainbridge branch of Kitsap Regional Library. You can also sign up in class if a KRL librarian visits your ELA class or school library.
  2. Read 10 hours. Fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, ebooks all count for your hours.
  3. Bring your completed tracker to the Bainbridge KRL branch by August 31st to show that you have finished. We will take care of the rest! Turn in your tracker when you are done.
  • You can pick out a free book if you read for 10 hours.
  • If you read 10 hours and decide to read more for the 100 hours, bring your tracker in to be checked and turn it in when you are done. If you read 100 hours, you can get the free limited edition shirt.
At the end of summer, arrive at school with a list of the books you read. List the title and author for each one.
WMS Athletes 2025-2026
Incoming 7th Graders

Is your student planning to play school sports next year? Don’t wait—Summer is the ideal time to get those sports physicals done! Pediatrician offices fill up fast in the fall as students in grades 7–12 rush to get cleared. Completing this early means your athlete will be ready to go from Day 1!
Important note for Woodward Track and Field athletes: The season kicks off on the first day of school, so make sure all registration and forms are completed ahead of time to ensure your student is ready to participate right away!

All forms and registration must be completed before a student can participate in practice or competition.

Forms:
The Sport Physical Form stays with your student’s doctor.
The Medical Eligibility Form gets uploaded to your student’s Final Forms registration. These are valid for 2 years.

Registration:
  • Woodward Athletics registration can be completed on the WMS website through Final Forms. Further instructions can be found here
  • Registration will open June 9th.

Annual Back to School Check-In

Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC)

The Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC) process is now open. This annual process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2025-26 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information.

The ABCs must be completed* for all students attending BISD schools in 2025-26, including both new and returning students. Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete.

If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please get in touch with our office.

NOT RETURNING? If your current K-11th grade student is not returning to BISD schools next fall, please let our office know.

*Student class placement/class schedules will not be released in August until the ABCs are completed. But why delay? Go ahead and take care of it today!
