Dear Sakai Families,
A huge thank you to everyone who attended our annual Talent Show last Friday. It was a fun night!
Fifth-grade families, a reminder for your student to make a decision on Choir or Band. Please complete the Form below by this Friday, April 3rd. The Form takes about a minute to complete, and I need your input to ensure we have the appropriate staffing for your student. For your reference, the program descriptions are reshared as well.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our music directors:
-
Band: Paul Meehan (pmeehan@bisd303.org)
-
Choir: Katie Gibbs (kgibbs@bisd303.org)
In addition, you will receive a message later this week explaining the 6th-grade Math options for next year.
Finally, each month we are required to hold an emergency drill. This month, I shared with students our parent reunification process in case we have an emergency that requires it. It’s a good reminder for families to check and, if needed, make edits to your emergency contacts in Skyward. If you need help, contact Annette Salmon in our front office.
Have a great week Sakai! And, if I don’t see you, I hope you and your family have a wonderful Spring Break!
Drew

Starting Wednesday, April 1st 2026, I will be out on Medical Leave and will be returning on Monday, April 27th, 2026. I am okay, and will be having a routine procedure that requires an extended recovery time. While I am out, Beth Hebert (retired Sakai School Counselor) will be subbing for me. You can reach her at ehebert@bisd303.org and/or 206-780-6506. She knows Sakai and many of our students and families. I will not be responding to emails or calls until I return so please reach out to Beth if you need assistance from the counseling office.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is May 5th–9th, and we need your help! This year we're bringing the Farmer's Market to Sakai with a full week of goodies, a staff night out, breakfast, and lunch to celebrate the amazing people who show up for our kids every day.
Non-perishables can be dropped at the main office starting April 27th.

Game Room Volunteers for April
We would like to provide a game room alternative during lunch recess! Game Room will be available during recess on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We would love one parent volunteer to supervise each of these. Please sign up for the available slots if you are able.
Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.
Please bring your driver's license or id each time you sign into any school in the district.

This spring, our schools are focusing on “Spring Into Attendance”—a positive reminder that growth happens when students show up. Each day in school helps students build skills, strengthen connections, and continue blooming academically and socially.
Just like plants need consistent care to grow, students thrive with consistent attendance. Arriving at school on time and ready to start the day is just as important, helping students begin the morning with their classmates and not miss important learning time. Showing up each day and being on time supports learning, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.
Together, we can help our students grow, learn, and bloom this spring! 🌱
