Principal's Message

Dear Sakai Families,

Despite the cold and breezy weather outside, it’s very cozy around Sakai today with many students (and staff) in their toasty clothes. Please see below for the rest of this week's district-wide Spirit Day themes.

While the first semester officially ends at the end of January, winter break always feels like the “halftime” of a school year. It’s been such a positive start to the year. We appreciate all of your support and partnership. As we head into the break, I hope you all have a joyful one filled with family and friends.

These students invited a friend to attend a pizza party with Mr. Crandall. Thank you to That's a Some Pizza and PTO for sponsoring our student incentive program. The nominations are made in reference to Sakai's Four R's: Responsible, Respectful, Reasonable, Reliable.

Health Room Clothing Need

Our health room provides dry clothes for students who need a change of clothes. With the recent wet weather, our supply of leggings and sweatpants has diminished.

If you have any gently used leggings or sweatpants that you are no longer using and are sized for 5th & 6th graders, please consider donating them to the health room. We would appreciate it!

PTO News

Please join us for our next PTO Meeting!

Thursday, December 18th from 9:00 – 10:00 am.

In person at Sakai or online. The Zoom link will be sent to families prior to the meeting. All are welcome!

Superintendent Amii Thompson will be our special guest at the PTO Meeting on Thursday and will be doing a question and answer session.

Volunteer Opportunities

Game Room Volunteers for December/January/February

As the weather gets colder and a little less outdoor-recess-y, our awesome Sakai staff would like to provide a game room alternative during lunch recess! Game Room will be available during recess on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We would love one parent volunteer to supervise each of these. Please sign up for the available slots if you are able.

Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.

Please bring your driver's license or id each time you sign into any school in the district.

New Payment Option Now Available in the Office

We are excited to share that our school office now has a credit card machine! Families can now conveniently pay fees, fines, and—most importantly—lunch balances right in the office.

As always, families can pay online and we still accept cash and checks in the office. The new credit card reader provides another quick and secure way to take care of school-related costs in the office.

Feel free to stop by the office anytime to make a payment or check on your child’s account balance. We’re happy to help!

BSF - Help Fill Sakai's Library Shelves!

Bainbridge Schools Foundation is raising funds to refresh library collections at all seven schools. Many shelves need new, engaging books that reflect student interests, celebrate diverse voices, and support a wide range of reading levels.

Families can choose to support Sakai directly or select “Fill Every Shelf” to make a greatest-need gift. Every contribution helps bring new books into our libraries and into the hands of students.

Here’s what your gift can do:

• $10 adds a new book

• $50 builds a small stack

• $100 creates a book bundle

• $250 fills a library shelf

Winter Break Pantry Bags

Helpline House, in partnership with Rotary, is providing extra food for youth during school breaks.

The “pantry bags” include enough food for one youth for an entire week of breakfasts and lunches. These are available to ALL youth ages 0–18.
