Principal's Message

Dear Sakai Families,

It’s hard to believe how quickly November is moving along! Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences from last week’s Family Dare. It’s wonderful to hear how many of you supported your students in reaching out to someone they appreciate.

We are approaching a busy time of year with lots of changes to usual routines and schedules. It’s helpful to pay attention to how these shifts impact us and our children. This week’s Family Dare invites you to take a moment to pause together. Set aside a little time as a family and check in with each other by asking, “How are you feeling today?” Encourage honest responses and listen closely to what each person shares. You can use the emotion check-in questions below to guide your conversation and deepen understanding. Let your student know how thankful you are for their openness.

Emotion Check-In Questions:
  • Tell me more about that feeling.
  • Why do you think you are feeling that emotion?
  • What do you need right now?

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, Sakai!

Drew

Recess Equipment Wishlist

If you have any gently used soccer or basketballs you’d like to donate, please consider donating them to Sakai. We could really use a few more for recess. You may drop them off in the office.

Thanks so much!

BISD Farm to School Program

Farm to school program update! November taste test

Our farm to school team was excited to launch our first taste test of the year at Sakai last week! Tony, who leads the kitchen team at Sakai, piloted a pumpkin curry with chicken recipe with students who voted on their preference. The recipe featured pumpkins grown at Suyematsu/Bainbridge Island Farms. Students overwhelming voted in favor of having the recipe offered at school lunch- comments included “It was so good I shoved it down!” “It’s so good!” “Really yummy!”. We love this real time interaction and feedback from students as a part of our farm to school program. Check out the pumpkin curry recipe here!
