Thank you to parents, relatives, friends, and neighbors for supporting our students and helping us meet (and pass) our goal! We were able to raise over 118% of our goal! We are so appreciative of you! Your generosity will allow us to do so many fun things this year. I also am very thankful to the Sakai community for bringing the spirit on Friday. Classes competed for most spirited with themed outfits, chants, performances, and cheers. And all had huge smiles! The energy and enthusiasm were just contagious!
As a whole school reward, yesterday students walked through the Sakai doors and onto platform 9 3/4. A dedicated team of witches and wizards were busy Sunday magically transforming the school into Hogwarts to celebrate an outstanding level of participation over the last three weeks. Thank you to our PTO for their vision and leadership. It looks incredible.
In alignment with our District Improvement Plan around Equity, Ms. Watson, one of our school counselors, and I will be delivering a series of mini-lessons to students on the broadcast relating to the power of words. We will focus on the impact of labels and stereotypes and how those can lead to discriminatory language. Today launched this series of lessons connecting to our work on anti-bullying practices and Unity through the month of October.

We are looking forward to meeting with you this week. Conferences are a valuable time to connect with your child's teacher. Here are a few tips to prepare for your conference this fall:
- Please share the essential information you have about your child. You are your child’s first teacher and know them best. Sharing information that you find important about your child will help us connect and best educate your child.
- Ask us questions. Please ask about what your child will be learning, how they are progressing, or what additional help they might need. Please know that all questions are good questions.
- Build a relationship with your child's teacher. Please use this meeting as an opportunity to build a relationship with your child's teacher. We are all on the same team with the same goal of ensuring your child is happy and learning.
- Finally, please remember our teachers are working so hard to provide the best educational experience we can while also attending to students' social-emotional needs. We are constantly working to improve how we do this. Teachers would appreciate hearing about any bright spots you have so far.
We know these are busy times and it’s a challenge to find time for conferences. Thank you for doing so and for your continued partnership!
See you this week, Sakai!

Counseling Groups
We are fortunate to begin offering small counseling groups at Sakai. One of the first groups we are going to offer is a Changing Families Group beginning in November. This is an 8 week group focused on the changes that occur as a result of parent separation, divorce or remarriage. The Changing Family group sessions will occur during lunch. Each session will consist of fun activities and time for discussion. If you are interested in having your child participate in the Changing Families Group please contact the school counselor.

Thursday, October 31st and Friday, November 1st are Fall conference days.
There is no school for students on conference days.
Conferences are an important time to further that home to school, and school to home connection that is so valuable in education. It's a time for students to be recognized for their efforts, and a time for students to re-establish their goals and their dedication toward reaching those goals. Families and teachers work together to support the student. In so doing, families and teachers show the caring and teamwork that is a crucial connection in a student's education. Teachers are looking forward to conferencing with all of you.

Sakai Volunteer Opportunities
|
We have several upcoming volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Thank you for considering signing up to help us out.
We still need volunteers to help take down decorations this Friday, 11/1.
Let's Feed Our Teachers
Hello Sakai Families! Our incredible teachers and staff are gearing up for conferences, and we’d love to keep them energized with some tasty food and treats! Let’s show our Sakai spirit by clicking here to sign up and sweeten their day!
Game Room
As the weather gets colder and a little less outdoor-recess-y, we would like to provide a game room alternative during lunch recess! If you would like to volunteer in our game room, please click here.
Sakai Reads
Sakai’s all-school book discussion groups takes place on Wednesday, November 6th. This year’s theme is Compassion. For more information and if you would like to lead a discussion group, please click here.
Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.
Please bring your driver's license or id each time you sign into any school in the district.
